5 BART Stations Closed Due To Fire in East Bay

Early Thursday morning five BART stations were closed due to a fire on a train in the East Bay.

BART Stations closed due to fireThe incident occurred around 4:38 a.m. when a fire on the rear car of a three-car train traveling northbound between Coliseum and Fruitvale stations was reported.

Officials did confirm that there were passengers who suffered injuries, but details were not provided on the severity of the injuries.

Crews were working to replace the rail that was damaged due to the fire.

At around 8 a.m. BART announced to commuters that service would be shut down at the east Oakland and San Leandro lines connecting to Fremont and Dublin until about 9 a.m.

However, The Bay Fair, Lake Merritt, Fruitvale, Coliseum, and San Leandro stations will remain closed until further notice.

The line to Oakland International Airport was also closed.

It is unclear how the fire started and when services will be up and running again.
