An alleged DUI driver has been arrested after a 19-year-old female CSUN student was killed and several others were injured in a fiery crash early Sunday morning.
The accident occurred around 3:30 a.m. when the driver of a Honda Civic slammed into the driver’s side of a red Ford Mustang at the intersection of Roscoe Boulevard and Lindley Avenue.
An initial report noted that a total of five people were injured.
However, the 19-year-old female CSUN student was later pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the initial report.
The 21-year-old male driver of the Honda Civic was hospitalized and was reported to be in stable condition. Authorities later arrested the driver and was charged on suspicion of driving under the influence.
A passenger in the Honda Civic was hospitalized in critical condition after sustaining life-threatening injuries. The passenger was not expected to survive.
Officials do believe that drugs or alcohol were contributed to the fiery crash. The driver was given a sobriety test at the scene.
A resident who lives in the area witnessed police officers picking up beer cans at the scene shortly after the accident.
The crash remains under investigation.
