A 37-year-old man and his 6-year-old daughter were killed after their SUV collided with a box truck in Van Nuys Sunday afternoon.
The accident happened around 12:45 p.m. near Sherman Way when the driver of a Ford SUV lost control of the vehicle and crossed all the lanes, colliding with a box truck.
The driver side of SUV was struck and the male driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
A child passenger was transported to a nearby hospital, but was later succumbed to her injuries.
There were three passengers in the box truck who were also transported to a hospital, but were in fair condition.
It is unclear if the driver and passenger in the SUV were wearing seat belts at the the time of the accident.
A SigAlert was issued, but all lanes were reopened by 5:40 p.m.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Although it is unclear why the SUV lost control, there could’ve been maintenance issue or even debris on the road to cause the vehicle to lose control.
