According to the New York Times, GM’s latest recall will include 3.36 million cars worldwide. The problem has been traced to a defective ignition system that may turn off the engine or the electrical system due to heavy keychains and sudden jolts from potholes and speed bumps.
In total, GM has recalled 6.5 million cars this year due to similar ignition problems. The problem itself has existed in some models for over a decade.
Congress has formed a subcommittee to address the latest issue and the persistent safety problems throughout GM. While it’s a nice gesture, it is unlikely to provide justice to those who have been injured and the families of those killed due to the negligence of General Motors.
