Pedestrian in Critical Condition After Accident in Visalia

Tracy Fikstad remains in critical condition after being struck by a car while crossing Demaree Street in Visalia on Wednesday evening. The accident occurred around 7:00 p.m.  A young woman, was driving her Chevy south through the residential neighborhoods not far from West Laurel Avenue when she struck the pedestrian.

Fikstad was transported by ambulance to Kaweah Delta Medical Center. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Investigators are still looking into what may have caused this pedestrian accident. Initial reports are not clear whether or not Fikstad was on the sidewalk. It’s a street with very low curbs, so it would be easy for a vehicle to ride up into the sidewalk. Also, street lights are sparse, and with the days getting shorter it would have been difficult for the driver to see Fikstad.

Seventy-percent of pedestrian accident happen at night, when visibility it at its worst. It’s always a good idea to wear reflective or light colored clothing, as well as carry a flashlight.
