Semi-Truck Driver Killed in Fontana Freeway Accident

On Monday January 26th, the driver of a big rig truck crashed into an exit sign for Citrus Avenue on the westbound 10 Freeway in Fontana. The accident took place just after 3:00 a.m.

The collision caused the truck to catch fire, killing the driver. There was a secondary accident caused by a fallen light pole affecting several passenger vehicles. No one was seriously injured. San Bernardino County law enforcement closed the westbound lanes of the freeway until later that morning.

Officers are still investigating the cause of the accident, but it is clear the deceased driver went off the road. Many things could cause this including:

  • Falling asleep behind the wheel
  • A health emergency
  • Driving under the influence
  • Distracted driving
