The company is claiming that they may have manufactured the window switches with an insufficient amount of lubricant grease. This issue can short-circuit, overheat and melt, ultimately causing a fire.
There are multiple models affected by the recall ranging from models manufactured between 2007-2011.
A previous recall was issued for models made between 2o07 to 2009 regarding a similar issue.
Reports showed that there have been 11 incidents where the switch or car door burned. One of the cases burned someone’s hand.
The recall is equivalent to about two-thirds of the automaker’s annual global production. Toyota will fix the affected vehicles for free.
