The incident occurred around 7:50 a.m. at the intersection of West Edinger Avenue and South Center Street.
According to the Orange County Fire Authority officials the young teen was riding her bicycle in the crosswalk on the west side when a Santa Ana Unified School District box truck struck her.
The truck was headed southbound on Center Street and was making a right turn on westbound on Edinger Avenue.
Paramedics arrived on the scene and performed CPR on the girl, but she was later pronounced dead due to severe head and chest injuries.
The bicycle was found underneath the truck.
The truck driver was extremely distraught and cooperative, staying on the scene to help officials.
The school district did not directly comment about their employee, but are cooperating with Santa Ana Police Department.
Officials closed dow West Edinger Avenue near South Center Street, but reopened the streets around noon.
